Sonia Raiziss

Sonia Raiziss Giop (October 13, 1906[1] – March 19, 1994)[2] was an American poet, critic, and translator.

[2] was an editor of Chelsea (magazine), from 1960 to 1994, with Ursule Molinaro,[3] featuring poems and prose by Denise Levertov,[4] Sylvia Plath, Umberto Eco, Raymond Carver, and Grace Paley.

[6] Her work appeared in American prefaces,[7] The Atlantic,[8] Beloit Poetry Journal.

[14] As a member of the League of American Writers, she served on its Keep America Out of War Committee in January 1940 during the period of the Hitler-Stalin pact.

[3][2] Her Sonia Raiziss Giop Charitable Foundation[16] (Alfredo de Palchi trustee)[17] continues to fund the Jane Austen Essay Contest,[18] Bordighera Poetry Prize, and the Raiziss/de Palchi Translation Awards.
