[2] Venkatrathnam was born in Sea View in Durban in the province of Natal, on 27 July 1935, in a family with 12 siblings.
[1] The book was passed around to other prisoners including Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Billy Nair, Raymond Mhlaba, and Mac Maharaj.
