[4][5] James H. Parks, an early businessman whose store stood near the present location of the ABC store, was one of three men who donated land for the county seat in 1866.

[7] On August 9, 2020, the town was the epicenter of a moderate earthquake that was felt as far as Georgia.

[10] As of the 2020 United States census, there were 1,834 people, 732 households, and 409 families residing in the town.

41.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 22.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
