Spencer Gorden Pope Sr. (March 9, 1893 – September 9, 1976) was an American football player and automobile dealer.
He then attended Indiana University where he played college football as an end for the Hoosiers in 1915 and 1916.
[2] Pope's college education was interrupted by service in the U.S. Army during World War I in 1917 and 1918.
[5] In June 1920, he received the Jacob Gimbel Prize for "superior mental attitude in athletics at Indiana university.
