St Mary's Church, Askham Richard

The current church was built in the 12th century, with walls of limestone and sandstone.

[1][2] In the 19th century, the north wall was rebuilt, the west gable was restored, and a vestry was added.

In the west wall is a doorway with no ornament other than plain imposts, described by Nikolaus Pevsner as "very unusual".

On the south side of the chancel, one window has stained glass, designed in 1879 by C. E. Kempe.

[1][2] In the porch is a square stone cross base, decorated with a serpent design.
