Stan Masters

Stan Masters (July 4, 1922 – December 13, 2005) was an American realist painter from the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood, Missouri.

[3] Masters returned to St. Louis in 1948 where he spent the next 20 years working in commercial art at various advertising agencies.

Despite favorable reviews from critics, and having won both local and national awards,[5] Masters' watercolors did not sell well in his lifetime.

[7] His paintings characteristically portrayed the familiar themes of railroads, cityscapes, and rural imagery which were emblematic of his hard scrabble Missouri childhood.

Masters' works possess an endowment of profound calm,[8] and their loneliness seems to guide the viewer to consider what is happening outside of the picture.
