Sukhbir Singh was born in bhogpur Jalandhar, Punjab, India but moved with his family to Nairobi, Kenya, and was raised there.

The juxtaposition of these musical styles is enhanced by Sukhbir's use of original Bhangra instruments like the dhol and dholak.
