Susan Phillips Read

Susan Phillips Read (born June 27, 1947)[1] is a former judge on New York State's Court of Appeals, having been appointed by Republican Governor George Pataki in 2003 for a 14-year term.

[2][3][4] Her selection made the appointive high court the first in the United States to comprise a majority of women.

[6] A native of Gallipolis, Ohio, Read is an alumna of Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Chicago Law School, having received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the former in 1969 and a Juris Doctor from the latter in 1972.

In June 2015, Read tendered her resignation from the Court of Appeals, effective on August 24, 2015.
