Suvorov crossing the Alps

Suvorov crossing the Alps (Переход Суворова через Альпы) was a painting by Vasily Surikov, painted in 1899 in honor of the centenary of Suvorov's Swiss campaign.

The painting is dedicated to the final stage of the Swiss campaign, when Suvorov's army was marching to join the allies to Germany.

The main idea of the painting is that soldiers making such a difficult life-threatening transition keep smiles on their faces or are completely calm because they believe in their commander.

Work on it ended in 1899 in honor of the centennial of the campaign.

Subsequently, Nicholas II himself bought this painting for 25,000 rubles.
