During his career, Gipson played quarterback, wide receiver, free safety and also returned punts and kicks.
On April 29, 2012, the Cleveland Browns signed Gipson to a three-year, $1.44 million contract after he went unselected in the 2012 NFL draft.

[100] Three weeks later against the Raiders, Gipson had four tackles and an interception in overtime to help set up the game-winning field goal in the 37–34 road victory.
[108] In Week 5, during a 42–10 victory over the Cowboys, he intercepted a pass from Dak Prescott in San Francisco territory that he returned for 26 yards.
