Tatsuo Hirano (平野 達男, Hirano Tatsuo, born May 2, 1954) is a retired Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party, and was formerly a member of the Democratic Party of Japan.
He was formerly a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet (national legislature).
Hirano is a native of Kitakami, Iwate and graduated from the University of Tokyo.
On July 5, 2011, after the abrupt resignation of Ryū Matsumoto, Hirano was named the Minister of State for Disaster Management, in the aftermath of the Great East Japan earthquake in his native Tōhoku region.
