He is known for his studies on the techniques of stabilizing the finite element methods.
Tezduyar obtained his master's degree and doctorate at the California Institute of Technology in 1978 and 1982, respectively.
Tezduyar assumed an associate professorship at the University of Minnesota in 1987, and was named a full professor in 1991.
He left Minnesota for the James F. Barbour Professorship in Mechanical Engineering at Rice University in 1998.
