Edward Joseph Garland

Edward Joseph Garland (16 March 1887 – 19 December 1974) was a farmer, diplomat and a Canadian federal politician.

Standing for re-election in the 1930 Canadian federal election, he won his fourth term with a majority of votes cast in the district.

Garland was one of the group of radical MPs to meet following the 1930 election and plan the creation of a new party.

He was a founding member of that party, the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, when it was officially launched in 1932. in the 1935 Canadian federal election, he stood as a CCF candidate but was defeated on his bid for a fifth term in office by Charles Edward Johnston from the Social Credit Party of Canada.

After his career in the Canadian Parliament Garland served as the High Commissioner to Ireland from 4 May 1946 to 19 March 1947.
