[1] The team has previously been known as BSG Motor Eisenach.

In 1958 the club won the East German championship in field handball.

[2] The modern club ThSV Eisenach was founded on June 11th 1990.

After the German unification the club has bounced betwen the 2nd and 1st Bundesliga.
