Thayne Forbes

Sir John Thayne Forbes (born 28 June 1938) is a British retired judge and barrister.

As a High Court judge, he presided over the trial of Harold Shipman who was convicted of 15 murders in 2000 and subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.

This marked the end of military service and began the time period during which he was liable for call-up.

[6] In 2009, the Al-Sweady Inquiry was set up to investigate allegations that British service personnel had murdered and ill-treated detainees in Iraq in 2004.

[6] The report was published in December 2014 and concluded that the allegations of torture and murder were untrue.
