A statement on the school's official website read: "Following the tragic death of the principal, Tim Reynolds, the Academy closed in January 2007.
On the closure of the Academy, then principal Daniel Brennan established a new drama school in Wapping, called Actor Works.
At the inception of The Actor Works on 18 December 2006, all mid-course Academy students were offered places and given the opportunity to complete their training at the new school.
