The Radiance of the King (Le Regard du roi, 1954) is the second novel by Guinean writer Camara Laye.
The novel tells the story of Clarence, a European man who, as he progresses through an African environment, is stripped of his Western ways.
[1] A European man named Clarence finds himself on a journey in West Africa in search of a king after a shipwreck.
Laye is thought to have purposely conceived such a multifarious ending leading to Clarence's success in meeting the king.
It was republished in 1965 in Great Britain by William Collins's Fontana Books, and in the United States by the Macmillan Company in 1971.
