[1] Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Studies from the University of Utah and a Master of Arts in Business Administration from Western Governors University.

In December 2019, Mitchell faced an unsuccessful recall after her vote on greenhouse gas emissions.
[6] In late 2019, #TimberUnity, a Timber industry activist group, attempted to recall Mitchell.
The effort failed to acquire 4,883 signatures for ballot access.
