Tom Hsieh

Thomas Kuo Shyang Hsieh[1] (November 17, 1931 – March 5, 2023) was a Chinese-born American politician, architect, and vineyard owner.

Hsieh was born in Beijing on November 17, 1931, and immigrated to the United States aged 19 in 1951.

[4] As an architect Hsieh designed and built over 1,600 low to moderate income units of housing for the elderly.

[1] He was previously appointed the first Chinese American to the San Francisco Arts Commission by Mayor Joseph Alioto.

[citation needed] Hsieh was appointed to fill a vacancy to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1986 by Mayor Dianne Feinstein.

[7] Hsieh was a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and was in support of creating a commuter rail line on the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge.
