Tom Ruddy

Thomas Ruddy (1 March 1902 – 11 November 1979)[1] was an English professional footballer who played as an inside-forward for Darlington, Derby County, Chesterfield and Southampton in the 1920s and 1930s.

Described as a "quick forward, with a hard shot",[1] Ruddy spent three seasons playing in the Football League with Darlington making 66 appearances, and scoring 37 goals.

[3] In May 1928, Ruddy moved to Derby County of the First Division where in 3+1⁄2 years he only made 22 league appearances, scoring nine goals,[2] including two in a 6–1 defeat of Manchester United on 30 March 1929.

Ruddy was recalled to the side for the last time in November when he made three appearances before being dropped in favor of Arthur Holt.

[6] Ruddy was released from his contract in the 1934 close season and returned to the north-east, playing in the North Eastern League with Spennymoor United.
