Da Luz played college soccer for the San Diego Toreros and assistant-coached the men's team after graduating.
He became the inaugural head coach of the San Diego Toreros women's soccer team in 1992.
In his last season in San Diego in 1996, he led the team to the second round of the NCAA tournament and was named West Coast Conference coach of the year.
[2] Da Luz was hired as the head coach of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons women's soccer team in 1997.
Their son Austin played college soccer at Wake Forest and professionally for North Carolina FC.
