Torvastad Church

It is located in the village of Torvastad on the northern part of the island of Karmøy.

It is the church for the Torvastad parish which is part of the Karmøy prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger.

[1][2] The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1301, but it was likely built during the 12th century.

A carved dragon head was found inside a wall during a renovation in the 17th century which was dated to the 1100s, which is the basis for the likelihood of the church's original construction around that time.

Each church parish was a constituency that elected people called "electors" who later met together in each county to elect the representatives for the assembly that was to meet in Eidsvoll later that year.
