Tripolis (Greek: Τρίπολις; meaning "three cities") was a maritime district in ancient Phoenicia.
The center of the confederation of the three Phoenician cities of Tyre, Sidon, and Aradus.
Through the ages, it evolved to become the present Lebanese city of Tripoli.
