Tunnel Runner

Tunnel Runner is a first person maze game released by CBS Electronics in 1983 for the Atari 2600.

Whilst many mazes have multiple exit doors, the player must find the key hidden somewhere in the labyrinth.

Unarmed, the player must avoid them at all costs in order to quickly find the key and exit to the next level.

This is quite easy at the start, but later the game becomes harder by placing more Zots on each level (up to a maximum of four).

Because of the Atari's limitations, the game lacks a turning animation when changing directions, so it is easy to become disoriented, especially when the Zots are chasing the player.

The most difficult levels have black walls where only the floor is visible and the doors themselves cannot be seen (making it impossible to know what type they are).

Tunnel Runner features many black levels in a row periodically, making them a real challenge to pass.

They can be found easily as the floor is colorfully vibrating in front of a door on a nearby wall.

They can be extremely useful for escaping from the Zots and saving precious level time at higher stages.

This door cannot be entered, but staring at it will award the player with up to 1000 bonus points as long as they continue to face it.

The player may also gain extra lives (maximum four) by earning a certain number of points.

Points are awarded for wandering through tunnels, exiting the level as soon as possible, or finding the "cb db" secret doors.
