Corey Borchardt is the current commissioner of the UMAC, and was appointed to the position in 2008.

The UMAC was started in 1972 as the Twin Rivers Conference, and assumed its current name in 1983.

Two UMAC member schools sponsor men's and women's ice hockey as a varsity sport.

Northland College and UW-Superior are members of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
