The UNGEI creators decided to take a 4-step approach to analyze the current education systems in order to monitor and evaluate change over time.
A Global Advisory Committee is composed of key partners who share in the planning, decision-making, guidance and accountability of UNGEI.
At the country level, UNGEI supports country-led development and seeks to influence decision-making and investments to ensure gender equity and equality in national education policies, plans and programmes.
UNGEI streamlines its efforts through the strategic use of existing mechanisms such as Poverty Reduction Strategies, sector-wide approaches and UN development assistance frameworks.
In May 2010, UNGEI organised the E4 conference on 'Engendering Empowerment: Education and Equality', held in Dakar, Senegal, and attended by a broad range of actors from national governments, UN agencies, and civil society.
