California State Capitol (Vallejo, California)

[1][2] A Vallejo wooden two-story building served as the California State Capitol from May 4, 1852, to February 4, 1853.

The building had a half set basement and was located at 300 York Street, Vallejo.

General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo (1807-1890) offered the site to the State after the wooden Sacramento California State Capitol building in the Sacramento First Courthouse burnt to the ground in large fire on July 13, 1854.

[5] The former Vallejo California State Capitol Building was lost on August 20, 1859, as hay stored in the basement caught fire.

The marker was placed there by Native Sons of the Golden West, Historic Landmark Committee in 1938.
