At the time of the Russian Empire Census of 1897, Vasilkovsky Uyezd had a population of 315,823.
Of these, 83.6% spoke Ukrainian, 12.1% Yiddish, 2.2% Russian, 1.8% Polish, 0.1% Tatar and 0.1% German as their native language.
[1] In July 1919, the center of the Vasylkiv district was transferred to Bila Tserkva.
The latter was granted the status of a city, and the county was renamed Bila Tserkva.
As a result, the first freelance city since 1846, Vasylkiv, appeared in the Kyiv province.
