It is located on the eastern side of the Rann of Kutch and southern side of the Rajasthan State touches it's borders,its headquarters is at the city of Tharad.
Vav-Tharad was carved out from the existing Banaskantha district on a 1st January 2025, making the newly existing thirty-fourth district of the Gujarat state of India.
