Vazhiny

Vazhiny (Russian: Важины) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Podporozhsky District of Leningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Svir River at the mouth of the Vazhinka River, several kilometers northwest of the town of Podporozhye.

The area was relatively unpopulated until the 18th century, when the Mariinsky Canal System, which included the Svir River, was opened.

[9] On August 1, 1927, the uyezds in Leningrad Oblast were abolished, and Podporozhsky District with the administrative center in Podporozhye was established.

It was a part of Lodeynoye Pole Okrug of Leningrad Oblast and included areas formerly belonging to Lodeynopolsky Uyezd.

Vazhiny is a part of so-called Podporozhye Ring, which includes some of the best samples of wooden ecclesiastical architecture in Leningrad Oblast.
