[3] The West Branch French Creek flows from north to south across the center of the township, joining the main stem of French Creek, which crosses the southeastern corner of the township, at Wattsburg.

Two tributaries to West Branch French Creek, Bailey Brook and Alder Brook begin in Venango Township and one, Townley Run, ends in the township.

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 2,277 people, 771 households, and 637 families residing in the township.

There were 771 households, out of which 43.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.2% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.3% were non-families.

14.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
