Venice, Utah

Venice (/ˈvɛnɪs/ VEN-iss) is an unincorporated community in northwestern Sevier County, Utah, United States.

[1] Venice is a small farming village approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) northeast of Richfield, the county seat.

The area considered Venice is approximately bisected by the Sevier River, which runs roughly northeast through the community.

To the east is a rocky hill on the edge of the Sevier Plateau known as the Black Knoll, marked with a hillside letter V (38°48′10″N 111°58′21″W / 38.80278°N 111.97250°W / 38.80278; -111.97250 (V for Venice)).

A post office was established in the local general store in 1894, and in 1900, a ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized.

The Marysvale Branch of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad was formerly the most important transportation corridor in the area.

Each time a sugar factory was closed, Venice farmers had to send their crop further and further north, at greater shipping expense.
