From 2016 to 2020 she was a member of Maple Syrup, Sweater, and, while she was studying at UCLA, Girl Friday.
The COVID-19 pandemic marked the end of her time in the USA and she returned to solo recording in New Zealand.
[3] In 2020 she released two EPs, World Emotion and Songs No-one Should Hear, and signed to Flying Nun Records.
[4] Ellen's fourth solo album, Ideal Home Noise, was released on 31 March 2023 and went on to win the Taite Music Prize in April 2024.
[5] Shortly before her win was announced, Ellen had decided to join the artists boycotting 2024's South by Southwest in protest against the festival's links with the US defence industry.
