Vernon L. Lowrance

Promoted to vice admiral, he commanded Submarine Force Atlantic and then served as deputy director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

[2] Transferred to the Pacific theatre, he commanded Kingfish and Sea Dog on seven successful combat patrols.

Credited with sinking 56,000 tons of Japanese shipping,[1] Lowrance was awarded the Navy Cross and three Silver Stars.

[7] Promoted to rear admiral effective August 1, 1957,[8] Lowrance served as director of the Office of Naval Intelligence from September 1960 to June 1963.

[15] Their other son Douglas Long Lowrance (December 1, 1935 – July 8, 2017) was a 1957 Naval Academy graduate and commander of the submarine Picuda.
