Verplanck Van Antwerp

Verplanck S. Van Antwerp (8 June 1807 – 2 December 1875) was a Brevet Brigadier General in the Union Army during the American Civil War and served as U.S. Land Office Receiver and Secretary to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs.

Van Antwerp was born 8 June 1807 in Albany, New York.

In the 1830s and 1840s, he was a United States General Land Office Receiver and Secretary to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, in Keokuk, Iowa.

He was later transferred to the Army of the Potomac, as Acting Assistant Adjutant General on Major General Winfield Scott Hancock's staff and remained in post until the end of the war.
