Victor Reuben Swenson (January 27, 1936 – July 25, 2019) [1] was the founding executive director of the Vermont Humanities Council and the namesake for the Victor R. Swenson Humanities Educator Award.

[4][5] By the time Swenson retired in 2002 after 28 years with the organization, it had eleven employees and supported 2500 events in all of Vermont's fourteen counties.

They divorced and he married poet and professor Judith Yarnall; they lived in Johnson, Vermont.
