Virginia "Gina" Vargas Valente (born 23 July 1945) is a Peruvian sociologist and a well-known figure in the women's movement in her country.
[1] In 1978 Vargas founded the Flora Tristán Center, a non-governmental Peruvian organization that studies, educates, and lobbies for women's rights.
[4] She took a position as professor at the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands for the Women and Development Program, teaching for two months out of the year.
[3][1] She has been a visiting professor to gender studies programs at the University of Wisconsin in the United States as well as in Latin America and Peru.
[3] Vargas was the recipient of a UNIFEM Award during the United Nations' Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in September 1995.
