Mausinsel lies in the west of the Wörthsee lake, and is connected to the mainland by a causeway.
The highest point on the island is 567 metres (1,860 ft) above sea level.
The island is separated from the lake shore only by a narrow channel running through marshy land.
Many years ago a rich but hard-hearted count owned the island.
The count rode back to his castle, which was invaded by a swarm of rats and mice that even stole the food from his plate.
