Warwick was born near Manchester, England, and emigrated to South Australia with his family in 1966.
[citation needed] Encouraged by his parents to take up guitar at age 11, he studied music for 2 years and formed his first band, 'Virginia Wolfe' with friends from the same area.
They played high school shows, local clubs and entered Hoadley's Battle of the Sounds, where they were the youngest entrants.
[citation needed] He has also recorded with Max Sharam and Diana Anaid, (where he met his future Whitlams cohorts, Jak Housden and Terepai Richmond).
