Waterford Township was organized in 1858, and named from a nearby ford crossing the Cannon River.
[3] According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 14.8 square miles (38.2 km2), all land.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 517 people, 193 households, and 152 families residing in the township.
17.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
None of the families and 1.4% of the population were living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and none of those over 64.
