[1] A year later, Hammond, who had left the Army and was working for a bank in Coolangatta,[3] made his debut for the Australian national team, playing all three matches in a test series against New Zealand.
[2][6][7] He also played for Australia in the 1978 World Cup in Buenos Aires, where he and the Australian team won a bronze medal.
[5] In the lead up to the 1980 Olympics, Hammond played for Australia at the Champions Trophy tournament in Karachi, where the Australians won bronze.
[8] Hockey Queensland announced their Team of the Century in 2000 and Hammond was named at fullback, alongside Don McWatters.
