The township is between the cities of Lancaster and York on U.S. Route 30, allowing for a mix of suburban and farm living.
Unincorporated communities in the township include Farmdale, Silver Spring, Oyster Point, Bruckarts Station, Hempfield, Chestnut Hill, Ironville, Cordelia, Kinderhook, Klinesville, and part of Salunga.
16.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
