The park is part of the Hastings-Macleay group World Heritage Site Gondwana Rainforests of Australia inscribed in 1986[2] and added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2007.

[3] The park is quite noticeable from nearby Port Macquarie as a tall escarpment to the north west.

The park is between the Macleay River and Hastings River valleys and includes Kemps Pinnacle and Mount Banda Banda, both over 1,100 metres (3,600 ft) above sea level.

Its diversity offers naturalists everything they need, there are protected species of plants, birds and animals, as well as a beautiful rainforest environment.
