He remained in this position until April 1988 when he was made Greater Accra Regional Minister for a third time.
[2][3] He studied at the Accra Academy where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1958.
[4][5][6] Following his secondary education, Thompson joined the Bank of West Africa in 1959 as an Accounts Clerk.
[6][8] In 1968, he was made provost marshal, and a year later, Staff Officer II Coordinate (MOD) (PA).
[9][27][28] He served in this capacity from 1986 until April 1988 when he was reappointed Greater Accra Regional Minister for a third time.
