William Bernard McGregor[1] received his PhD degree from the University of Sydney in 1984.
[2] After gaining his doctorate, McGregor had a number of positions through different institutions in Australia, before moving to Europe.
He works on theoretical and typological issues from within a variation of systemic functional linguistics dubbed "semiotic grammar", developed by him.
[6][7] McGregor was elected fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 1999,[8] and became a member of Academia Europaea in 2014.
[9] As of September 2024[update] he serves on the editorial boards of the Australian Journal of Linguistics[10] and Language and History.
