Major General William Francis Mullen III (15 July 1964 – June 29, 2024) was an officer in the United States Marine Corps.
[4] In 2005, Mullen was deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, as Operations Officer for the Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division.
After his tour ended, he attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island earning a Master`s degree.
[6] In July 2016, he assumed command of Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms.
[8] Mullen co-wrote a book with Daniel Green entitled Fallujah Redux: The Anbar Awakening and the Struggle with Al-Qaeda, published in September 2014.
The authors present a strategy by U.S. military planners to work with the local population in order to resist the insurgents, who were seen as a common enemy.
[3] On June 29, 2024, Mullen's body was found at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California, the former base he commanded.
