William Peascod (3 May 1920 – 1985) was a British abstract painter, potter, teacher, and in the 1940s, a renowned rock climber.
Peascod was born in Ellenborough, Cumbria, where he worked as a coal miner from age 14, mountaineering[2] and painting in his spare time.
In 1986 the University of Wollongong held a major retrospective of is life and work at their "Long Gallery", featuring over 40 of his artworks.
According to Bill Birkett, Whillans was leading the first pitch of Colin Kirkus' classic climb 'Great Slab' on Clogwyn du Arddu with Peascod on belay.
Birkett, who was watching, photographed the pair as Whillans started off and moments after, Bill Peascod succumbed to a massive heart attack and passed away.
