Sir William Somerville KBE FRSE LLD (1860–1932) was a 19th/20th century Scottish agriculturalist.
[1] He was born in Cormiston near Biggar in Lanarkshire on 30 May 1860 the son of Robert Somerville JP (died 1879) a farmer, and his wife, Margaret Alexander.
He was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh then went to work on his father's farm.
His proposers were Alexander Crum Brown, Robert Wallace, James Geikie, and John Gibson.
[4] He retired in 1926 and later that year was created a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) by King George V.[5] His position at Oxford was filled by Prof James Anderson Scott Watson.
