Winthrop-Sears Medal

The Chemists’ Club was founded in 1898 and is the world’s longest serving International organization devoted to the furtherance of chemistry and related technologies.

This medal was named after two very early chemical industry pioneers, one of whom was John Winthrop the Younger, one of America’s earliest scientists who was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1662.

The medal was established in 1970 to recognize individuals who, by their entrepreneurial achievement, have contributed to the vitality of the chemical industry and the betterment of humanity.

The prospective awardees are evaluated based on the impact of their contribution to the vitality of the chemical industry and the betterment of humanity over the past year, and their journey to their entrepreneurial achievement.
