The Wisconsin National Guard dates back to 1848 when it was commissioned by the State as the "Wisconsin State Militia".
[2] On June 6, 2024, Major General Paul E. Knapp resigned.
[4] Ebben took command from Major General Donald P. Dunbar following the latter's resignation after a federal report found he had "willfully ignored sexual assault allegations" in the Wisconsin National Guard.
[5] Prior to the change in command, Ebben was the Deputy Adjutant for the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
He continued this role concurrently with the interim position.
